What will I do to help UNT close the gaps and own excellence?:
I will work hard and smart to bring my department much closer as a team and strive for our department to be more involved with the university activities and encourage students at every step through every responsibility I carry out as an employee and through everything I do as a person committed to UNT
What do we need to do to promote student retention? :
Get a comprehensive "Student Success Plan" PACKAGE that involves Tuition planning, Financial Aid, Class enrollment planning, attendance, requirements of graduation and advising and guidelines to help students cross the barriers they face. We have all the departments, but it'd be amazing to actually have a set plan for all these departments coming together with a pre-set package that would cater to students' individual needs and help improve retention rate

What will I do to help UNT close the gaps and own excellence?:
Track student drop rates.
What do we need to do to promote student retention? :
Be proactive instead of reactive. Run drop reports for each course every 3rd or 4th wk of each semester. If a course has more than a 10% drop rate, an automatic teaching observation should be administered. This will provide guidance to the instructor, create awareness of the drop rate and establishes a record of the action taken.
What do we need to do to build quality graduate education? :
Major professors should play a larger role in assisting students to stay on track with degree progression.

What will I do to help UNT close the gaps and own excellence?:
I will encourage undergraduates to experience the exhilaration of research in the laboratory and develop structured paths for them to experience this. I think we will get the best graduate students when we recruit UNT undergraduates who feel passionate for the school and their contributions to solving the grand challenges of engineering.
What do we need to do to promote student retention? :
Have smaller class sizes and increased recitation hours. Hire our seniors to tutor and mentor our freshman/sophomores since they have experience with similar classes.
What do we need to do to build quality graduate education? :
Offer UNT undergraduates an opportunity to learn. Speak positively about innovative ideas you have executed on. Bring new ideas, Ted talks, NPR podcasts into your homeworks. Education in the classroom should be a window to the needs of the future.

What will I do to help UNT close the gaps and own excellence?:
I direct the Counseling Psychology PhD program & aim to achieve both these goals by insisting on thorough, holistic review of our applicants for admission (even though we get nearly 200 for 8 spots).
What do we need to do to promote student retention? :
We need to hire more diverse faculty, as research studies support the fact that under-represented students (ethnic minority, 1st generation, those with disabilities, etc.) need to see faculty who are like them to feel safe in approaching them (for mentoring, assistance, community, etc.).
What do we need to do to build quality graduate education? :
Honestly, many programs are able to attract the best students NOW, but without full-ride fellowships, they accept better offers elsewhere.

What will I do to help UNT close the gaps and own excellence?:
I will participate, engage and be involved in every activity that will help promote UNT everywhere, and help student retention and will do above and beyond to own excellence at my work place, within my division and within the university.
What do we need to do to promote student retention? :
Several student retention techniques could be implemented such as: - Implementing and improvising financial counseling techniques for students - Forming a low-cost, short term evaluation committee to identify all the departments and programs that help at risk students such as Emerald eagle, TRIO, etc., and developing internal controls and improvisation techniques that could help them "Do more with less" and increase student retention - Identifying the hurdles in curriculum and reorganizing where necessary - An overhaul of "Academic Advising" system is much needed at UNT where there a common understanding between Faculty, Advising Staff, Enrollment, Management and other departments - Every student must be given a "package" services that includes Financial aid, academic counseling, special services, engagement and research guidance - Students who are willing to go to Grad school at UNT after undergraduate studies at UNT should be given special consideration and a discount on tuition if possible. - Last but not the least a 5% tuition decrease in the upcoming year might boost retention
What do we need to do to build quality graduate education? :
I think we can achieve this goal if we implement and achieve the goals set forward for the "Research Implementation team" as a lot of issues identified by several studies and statistics are directly related to improving Research status of the university which might attract more competitive Graduate students into the university. Some basic suggestions would be: - To increase Research Funding by encouraging faculty to apply to more grants - Hosting Graduate Research fairs, Conferences & Seminars and attracting talent - Incentives to faculty and staff who recruit potential research oriented graduate students -Forming a Graduate+Faculty committee in every department to improve graduate education, research and retention rates - Reducing Tuition by approx. 6% (Which is very essential and very much possible), Increasing scholarships and Graduate fellowship opportunities
