The Director for Special Events is responsible for planning and directing the strategic
and operational activities of special events hosted or supported by the UNT President.
The Director for Special Events' responsibilities include:
- Developing, executing, and evaluating all aspects of presidential events under the
overarching goals of presenting the university’s mission effectively, and developing
and maintaining goodwill with current and potential friends and associates of the
university.
- Managing events with high-level VIPs to ensure optimal guest experience while appropriate
protocols are followed, including handling political visitors and international gifts.
Collaborating with System office to coordinate government officials’ visits.
- Upholding and enforcing fiscal responsibility for event-related purchases. Managing
budget accounts as department ID holder with signature authority, including monitoring
expenses and adhering to budgetary guidelines.
- Serving as a formal resource for internal and external constituents regarding UNT
standards, policies, and best practices as a part of the President's Office of Special
Events. Reviewing/assisting with elements of other departments' events as needed.
Advising on protocol and providing guidance to encourage consistency in university
events.
- Representing the Office of the President on various university committees. Collaborating
with and coordinating information to campus administrators.
- Collaborating with, providing direction to, and supervising Assistant Director for
Special Events and other full- and/or part-time staff in the Office of the President.
