Bio Information

As Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Albert Bimper Jr. provides leadership for UNT’s academic enterprise, advancing institutional priorities that strengthen student success, academic innovation, and national distinction.

Dr. Bimper oversees UNT’s academic colleges and a broad portfolio of academic support units, including Faculty Success, Academic Financial Strategy, Student Success, International Affairs, University Libraries, Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness, and Accessibility and Disability Services. Working collaboratively with university leadership, faculty, staff, and students, he helps shape and execute UNT’s academic mission while ensuring institutional coherence, responsible stewardship of resources, and continued progress toward goals centered on scale, impact, and distinction.

A recognized and accomplished higher education leader, Dr. Bimper brings extensive experience spanning academic affairs, student affairs, strategic planning, budget and resource management, advancement, and organizational leadership. Prior to his appointment as Interim Provost, he served as Executive Dean of UNT’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences from 2023 to 2026, where he led the university’s largest and most comprehensive college. During his tenure, he championed interdisciplinary collaboration, expanded the college’s research enterprise, advanced academic program innovation, strengthened student success initiatives, and helped cultivate a culture of excellence and philanthropy. Under his leadership, the college developed a new strategic plan, transformed its organizational structure, launched new academic programs and research initiatives, and achieved record-setting fundraising success.

At the university level, Dr. Bimper has played a key role in several major institutional initiatives, including co-chairing the development of UNT’s budget model and efforts to expand work-integrated learning opportunities across the curriculum. His approach to leadership emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and creating the conditions necessary for faculty, staff, and students to thrive.

Before joining UNT in 2023, Dr. Bimper served in a variety of senior leadership roles at Colorado State University, including Interim Director of the School of Education, Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, Associate Dean and Executive Director in the College of Liberal Arts, Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, as well as Senior Associate Athletics Director. His faculty experience includes appointments at both Colorado State University and Kansas State University. Collectively, his career reflects significant leadership across academic affairs, student affairs, and intercollegiate athletics.

Born and raised in Texas, Dr. Bimper grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and graduated from Bowie High School in Arlington. As a first-generation college graduate, he draws upon his own educational journey and experiences as a collegiate football student-athlete at Colorado State University and a Super Bowl champion with the Indianapolis Colts to inform his commitment to expanding opportunity and empowering student success.
